Bun Bros Cannabutter Recipe

Whether you have made edibles before or not, cannabutter is one of the most important and widely used recipes when cooking with cannabis, so it is an essential skill for any weed enthusiast to possess. Similarly if you have never made cannabutter before, it is always a great thing to learn and is so simple that you can do it today - as long as you have the right ingredients & equipment!

First of all, you will need:

> Desired amount of cannabis

> Butter / Coconut butter

> Saucepan

> Glass or ceramic bowl (heat & fridge safe)

> Spatula / Wooden spoon

> Cheesecloth / Straining muslin

> Baking tray

> Oven

> Stove / Hob

> Patience!

The first step is to make sure you have all your equipment and ingredints ready and know exactly what you are going to do next so as to avoid any wrong moves or confusion (happens especially when we cook with cannabis as we are always smoking, which helps in some ways but certainly not in others!). Once everything is laid out and you have a clear picture in your head of what needs to be done and when, you can start.

1. Decarboxylate Cannabis - This is the process of gently heating - not burning - your cannabis in order to maximise the amount of available THC with which you can make edibles, ensuring none of your flower is wasted. Preheat your oven to 104 degrees Centigrade/ 215 degrees Fahrenheit, and lightly grind or pick your herbs to ensure they are not too finely ground ( this will result in failure because the heat will simply burn your cannabis and it will therefore be useless ), but are small enough to be considered crushed. Load your herbs onto a tin foil covered baking tray and keep an eye on the oven to make sure it doesn't get too hot, leaving your weed to decarboxylate on the middle shelf for

30-40 minutes. You will know when it's decarboxylated as it will have a darker brownish colour and a drier texture.

2. Butter Infusion - Fill your saucepan with boiling water depending on how big it is, making sure your bowl fits on top of the saucepan so that it's not touching the water, and put your butter in the bowl when you've made sure it's stable and the boiling water level is just below the bottom of the bowl. Melt your butter (or coco butter) and add the weed into the bowl, stirring to infuse all the cannabis into the fat.

Stir every few minutes for the next 3 hours or so, (it can take less or more time depending on when you judge it to be ready so this is a guide) adding more boiling water to the pan when it gets low. You will know that it's ready when the mixture goes green and the cannabis goes soft, as it has been extracted as much as possible and you can turn the heat off.

3. Strain & store - If you have a cheesecloth or a muslin, find something to pour the hot butter mixture into which can be stored in the fridge and place the strainer over the top of the storage device. Using oven gloves or a towel, pour the hot butter through the mesh and make sure no herb makes it into the strained cannabutter. Leave it to cool for a few minutes before putting it in the fridge, and once it has hardened it's ready to go!

There are endless possibilities with this butter, simply spread it on toast or on a hot pizza to enjoy immediately or use a classic chocolate brownie recipe - you can even add it to a morning coffee or pretty much whatever else you can think of... that's the beauty of THC infused butter!
